Transfer your domain to PalmHost
Transferring a domain to PalmHost moves the management of the domain registration to PalmHost. A domain transfer is separate from moving the website or email associated with the domain.
You can transfer the domain registration to PalmHost while keeping the website and email where they currently are, or you can transfer the domain and move those services separately.
Before you start
Check the requirements for your domain extension before starting the transfer. Depending on the domain extension and current registrar, you may need information from your existing domain provider.
This can include:
- The domain name you want to transfer
- Access to your current domain registrar account
- A domain transfer or authorisation code, where required
- Confirmation that the domain is eligible for transfer
The exact requirements can vary between domain extensions, so follow any transfer instructions provided for your specific domain.
Start the transfer through PalmHost
- Open the Domain Transfer option on the PalmHost website.
- Enter the domain name you want to transfer.
- Follow the transfer order process.
- Provide any transfer information requested.
- Review the order details and complete the order.
- Complete payment if a payment is required for the transfer.
If an authorisation or transfer code is required for your domain, make sure you enter it exactly as supplied by your current registrar.
What happens to your website?
A domain transfer does not automatically move your website files from your current hosting provider to PalmHost.
Your website can remain on its existing hosting while the domain registration is transferred. If you also want to move the website to PalmHost, that is a separate website migration that needs to be planned and completed independently.
What happens to your email?
A domain transfer does not automatically move your email mailboxes or historical email messages.
Your existing email service can remain with its current provider while the domain registration is transferred. If you want to move your email to PalmHost, the email migration is a separate process.
This distinction is important because changing the domain registrar and moving website or email services are different tasks.
Be careful with DNS changes
Transferring a domain does not necessarily mean that you should immediately change its DNS records.
If your website or email is still operating through another provider, changing the DNS records during the transfer could affect those services.
Before changing DNS records, confirm which provider currently hosts your website and email and decide whether those services are also being moved.
After the transfer
Once the domain transfer has been completed, the domain will be managed through your PalmHost account.
You can then manage the domain and any related PalmHost services through the Client Area and hosting panel as appropriate.
If you are also moving your website or email to PalmHost, complete those migrations separately and make the required DNS changes once the new services are ready.
If your transfer does not complete
If the transfer cannot be completed, check the information supplied during the transfer process and confirm the domain's transfer requirements with your current registrar.
If you need assistance with a PalmHost domain transfer, contact PalmHost through Support in your Client Area. Include the domain name and any error message or transfer status information you received.
Do not include passwords or other confidential account credentials in a support ticket.
